Iliann Alvarez was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She moved to Kansas City where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute in May of 2018. Iliann creates multi-media sculptures. While she uses different materials to create her work, she primarily uses clay and fiber to create memoirs and self-portraits. It is a visual diary of her past. Her artwork ranges from tile pieces to installation work. She gains inspiration for her pieces through the fashion industry as well as her everyday life and surroundings. Iliann is currently a visual artist resident at the Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City, MO and will be a Project Network Resident at Guldagergaard – International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark in January 2020.
